Valentines & Picture Week!

Last week was chaotic but fun!  Last Tuesday and Thursday, Emma had her dance pictures at her dance studio.  It is a little crazy...instead of dancing, they change into their costumes for formal pictures.  Sounds easy enough...well no.  There are a billion dancers all crammed in different places with all their stuff piled everywhere rushing everywhere.  I helped Emma both nights organize her dresses (7 of them) and with make-up and hair.  Needless to say, I hope next year she will be able to handle it on her own.  Then on the last day, she had back to back pictures and she missed her group picture for hip-hop and was in tears.  The photographer took an extra picture of her and they will crop her in.  She was relieved but so upset.

Here are a few pics that I could snap before costume changes....

Then it was Valentine's Day and their school parties.  I am Ethan's Room Mom for kindergarten and help with Emma's 4th grade class in the afternoon with their parties.  Both went very well and all the kids were on a sugar buzz.

Dancing Divas

This past weekend we traveled in Detroit, MI for Emma's first competition of the season.  We left Friday evening to only see gas had jumped almost 20 cents but we got into our hotel fine.  We had dinner and I took the kids to the indoor pool and whirlpool.  They had a great time swimming with friends!

We got up early on Saturday and had breakfast with the dance studio.  Emma did not have to be at the high school in Commerce, MI until 1:00pm, however we decided to leave the hotel at 11 am so we could eat lunch early and make sure Emma was warmed up and ready to dance.

Well about 10 minutes into the drive, we came upon traffic circles, no big deal, right???  No, Erik was driving and pulling onto the outside lane in the traffic circle.  A lady came onto the traffic circle traveling in the inside lane and continued to come into our lane as to get off the exit.  What??  She hit the rear driver door, where Emma was sitting.  Luckily no one was hurt due to we were not going very fast.  We pulled out of the circle into the library close by.  The other driver was from MI and called the police.  Long story short, no one got a ticket but we were at fault.  Apparently in Commerce, MI, both lanes in the traffic circle can get off  at each exit and we did not yield for all traffic before entering onto the traffic circle.  I have never heard of this before since this would cause a ton of bottle-necking waiting to get on these circle.  I guess we are used to the traffic circles in Dublin, OH and in South Carolina.  Anyway it is about $3,000 in damage to my car which will be getting fixed next week with only paying my deductible and rental car.  The other driver just had front bumper damage.

The very positive side is that we made it to the high school by Noon and had lunch in plenty of time.  Thank goodness we were not late since the competition ran an hour early and one of the dancers in Emma's first dance missed the dance completely.  This is why I told Erik I wanted to travel up on Friday night so we were in MI in case of bad weather or traffic.

Emma performed 3 dances with her groups (ballet, jazz and hip hop).  All three received gold awards and each girl received a pin to place on their company jacket.  They did not place in top 5.  We did have some of the teen groups place in top 5 on Saturday and Sunday there were more dances that won as well.

Being this is only my second competition with Emma, I am disappointed because I know how hard these girls and boys practice these dances (since August) and I know they were frustrated.  However I can see why they may not place.  Our studio is more Christian based which means no stomachs showing or skimpy outfits or questionable music.  Each year the studio has a theme for their recitals and this year is a circus theme.  So we had some circus type music.  They do have current music but our studio is very proud of their technical ability and this competition were a lot of hip-hop...not much ballet or even tap.  The owners are tappers so they are known for tapping.  So with that being said, you never know what the judges are looking for but I know our dancers did a wonderful job and I am so proud of Emma!

In March, we will be traveling to Louisville, KY for another competition and she will have 4 dances to perform.  Hopefully my car will be fixed by then!

Keep Calm and CLEAN!

I few years ago, I discovered that spring cleaning in the winter was great!  I can get a lot of it done while the weather is cold and yucky and of course when the kids are in school.  So I start in January and hope to finish by the end of February with most of it.  Then when spring arrives, I just have to work on the outside!

It is the last day of the month and I am happy to report, all closets are cleaned out and organized.  All baseboards are cleaned, and all rooms are cleaned from top to bottom.  I just have the basement and garage which the basement will be done next week.

Then I organize and organize!  I love to have things organized and placed neatly where they belong.  However, I have 2 kids, a husband and a cat now.  Nothing is always in it's place all the time.  Now I am trying to place bins the kitchen pantry to organize it more and it looks nice.  Erik thinks I am OCD but the kids just throw things in there so if they have bins for each category, it will be easier.  Pictures to come when I am finished.

I also started an 'Important Papers' binder that has birth certificates, S.S cards for the kids, medical records (x-rays, and surgery info.), car title, jewelry appraisals, house warranty items.  This is for quick reference for us.  I saw this on Pinterest and thought it was a great idea!

Late last year I cleaned out my ugly bins and got matching white ones for my laundry room and placed cute little scrapbook paper and ribbon tags on them.  I am working on maybe getting cabinets and a new sink this year.

New Addition to the Kyre Family

Meet Buckeye!  Our kitten is almost 5 months old and full of energy...just like my kids!  We adopted him on December 23rd from Colony Cat Rescue off of Sawmill Road.  It is a very interesting place with 50+ cats running around and litter boxes galore.  I was about to leave when the lady said kittens were in another small room.  Emma found a kitten on their website and wanted to see if he was still there.  We went in but he was not.  However Emma fell in love with Darrel.  Well we all did not like that name so we changed it really quick.  Darrel reminded me of that show Storage Wars.  I kept thinking about "Yuuuppp!"  If you have watched the show, you know what I am talking about here!

Erik was still unsure about getting a new pet since we have not had one since our beloved first cat Boomer passed away.  Boomer became very ill when Emma was 2 years old and passed away at the vet.  It was very difficult on both of us so we decided no more pets for awhile.  However I did get 2 beta fish shortly after which I killed on accident changing the water in the bowls.  Apparently the water was too cold...okay I am not very good with fish.  Erik did come around with our constant nagging but he made very strict rules that the kids need to help take care of him.

The kids and I decided on Buckeye. We took him home that day and all of us spent two weeks with him.  Buckeye is a very loving and friendly kitten who just loves the kids.  We have closed all the bedrooms upstairs since he is teething and wants to chew.  I do not want him to swallow any little toys.  He is exploring everything so the trusty spray bottle is doing wonders.

I took Buckeye to the vet last week and he was sneezing a lot.  At first we thought he had allergies but he had a virus probably from the shelter.  So I have to give him some meds twice a day.  Not fun when he is clawing you and you are trying to have him drink medicine from a syringe.

Buckeye is fixed and microchipped. He is not declawed but we are going to have his front claws taken out.  He is scratching the carpet and us a little when he is playing.  Our kitty will be having surgery next month.

Here are some pictures of our little Buckeye...Emma and Ethan's first pet!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Kyre Family has been very busy with holiday gatherings and celebrating the new year.  The hubby gave in and we adopted a kitten for Christmas.  His name is Buckeye and the kids are in love!  Of course he has taken to me a lot and if I sit on the couch, he is laying right on me!  It is so cute!

Here are some pictures of our Christmas activities and New Year!  I am hoping for a great 2013!

Early Christmas

Here are some pictures of celebrating Christmas early with my parents, sister and niece and nephew at our house last weekend.  The kids had a blast eating, making "flat" gingerbread houses, opening presents and having fun.

Then this Wednesday, my kids had their Winter Parties at their school.  Fun was had by all!  Final pics are of the kids decorating the final batch of cookies!  I think I am cookied out...of course they are not!
