Our Miss Emma decided to enter an Arbor Day Poster Contest presented by Westerville City for 5th Grade Students in Westerville City Schools along with a special awards for 3rd graders in 1 particular school. It is a contest the art teachers have the students draw or paint about Arbor Day. Emma worked a little at home but decided she needed more color so worked on it at school in art class. I did not see the final product.
Received a letter last Friday indicating that Emma was the 1st Place Winner for the entire contest! She was over the moon happy since she really loves art and wants to make some kind of career in the art field.
Today was the day Emma and I met other winners, parents, teachers and the Westerville Arborist at the Everal Barn for a ceremony. The arborist talked about trees in Westerville and our oldest tree is 364 years old at the Otterbein Cementery. I did not know this so we will make a trip over to see it! Lived here most of my life and had no idea! Awards were presented with t-shirts, trees to plant and Emma received gift certificates to McDonald's and to Half Price Books! She is very excited about that since she wants some summer reading books!
Westerville will plant a tree in her honor at her school with the plaque at a later date. It is raining and muddy so hoping it will be soon! She cannot wait!
You cannot imagine how proud I am of her and all of her hard work this year! I am so happy her work was recognized. She needed some self confidence and this helped!
